Yesterday was a natural dye workshop with three beautiful mom ladies and 6 incredibly talented young ladies! We tackled: Hibiscus, Hollyhock, Walnut, Black-eyed Susan, Queen Ann’s Lace, Marigold, Ironweed, and Avocado. Great time had by all! Even the thunderstorms rolling through had no affect on the enthusiasm of this group! Our results were outstanding! Thank you Shaina, Lisa, Katy, and your beautiful kids.

The intense fragrance of green cardamom fills the kitchen at Wabash Woollen Works. I bruise the seeds fresh for a line of spicy teas. This cardamom is non GMO and comes from India. It pairs beautifully with black tea, clove, anise hyssop, ginger root, and bruised juniper berries to name a few.

Purchased some fabulous roving years ago and finally got ambitious! Spun up the roving on my Luet S10 spinning wheel and then knitted the cardigan. I finished it off with deer antler buttons I made as well! Whew! Big project!

Knitting used for secret codes.
Sue Southwick.

I have been investigating war time knitting patterns and was amazed to find that knitting and knitted garments were used to deliver secret messages following the morse code. The knit and purl stitches became the dots and dashes.

Apparently, there exists quite a long history between knitting patterns and espionage. Some would knit codes into the fabric, while others used knitting as a cover. Spies have been known to incorporate secret messages into knitting, embroidery, and rugs.
