Today we're in Valley Mills conducting a strategic planning workshop with the Bosque Valley Heritage Society to help plan the next phase of their museum, which is housed in the original Valley Mills Santa Fe depot! It's a great blend of public event space (in the old passenger waiting room) and exhibit space, and we are excited to help them make a sustainable plan for the future of this small museum that is crucial to its community's understanding of itself.

This is the kind of story you never want to read about: a fire destroying an entire museum. A community's collective past, up in flames, despite valiant efforts to save it. While completely preventing situations like this is impossible, mitigating steps like annual building examinations, tests of fire alarms, and digitization of archival assets can provide some measure of protection against total loss.

Just after midnight, fire crews responded to the report of a structure fire on the south side of the city in the 1600 block of South Trinity Street, according to Decatur Fire Department.
