I remember a time when I was faced with exactly that question. I was deeply immersed in a role where leadership development was critical, yet the training programs we had were either non-existent, or hopelessly insufficient. It felt like we were constantly struggling to keep up.

Our leaders were overwhelmed and underprepared. They were thrown into challenging situations without the tools or strategies they needed to succeed. We had this cycle of reacting to problems instead of proactively addressing them. Meetings were filled with frustrations as leaders stumbled through issues that could have been avoided with better preparation. The constant stress and confusion were palpable.

I vividly recall a pivotal moment that drove this pain point home. We had a crucial project and our team was scrambling to meet solve problems on the fly. Instead of feeling empowered and confident, our leaders were struggling to manage their teams and ultimately falling short of our goals. The stress was visibleโ€”late nights and a growing sense of defeat.

This struggle with inadequate training left me feeling helpless. I watched as talented leaders grew disillusioned and burned out. They lacked the guidance and support they needed. The cycle of inadequate training and underperformance was draining not just their energy but mine as well. I found myself caught in a never-ending loop of crisis management.

But hereโ€™s where the story takes a turn. I realized that if things were to change, I needed to take action. I set out on a journey to completely transform our approach to leadership development. I poured my heart into creating a comprehensive training program that was modern, engaging, and tailored to the specific needs of our leaders. The process was challenging, but seeing the positive changes was worth every effort.

The results were nothing short of extraordinary. Leaders who once struggled now felt equipped and confident. They approached their responsibilities with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity. The energy in the organization shifted from one of frustration to one of collaboration and achievement. The overall morale of the team improved significantly.

Witnessing this transformation was incredibly fulfilling. The sense of relief, pride, and accomplishment I felt was beyond words. I knew I had finally broken the cycle of inadequate training and set the stage for lasting success.

The way people expect leaders to lead has. changed. Many have said our culture has witnessed four styles of leadership since 1950:

๐™๐™๐™š ๐™ˆ๐™ž๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ง๐™ฎ ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ข๐™ข๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™๐™š๐™ง:
Leaders came out of the army, and expected unquestioning obedience from subordinates. Many of our presidents had military backgrounds.

๐™๐™๐™š ๐˜พ๐™๐™ž๐™š๐™› ๐™€๐™ญ๐™š๐™˜๐™ช๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š ๐™Š๐™›๐™›๐™ž๐™˜๐™š๐™ง:
Most leaders migrated to a different style, driven by vision and shared by everyone. It was still top down, and possibly very narrow in scope.

๐™๐™๐™š ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™–๐™˜๐™:
Leaders moved towards a coaching model, where they saw employees as players on a team. This produced even better results, but still limited the possibilities to the vision of the Coach.

๐™๐™๐™š ๐™‹๐™ค๐™š๐™ฉ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™‚๐™–๐™ง๐™™๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง:
Today, leaders, see the need to express the heart of the team, as a poet gives words to the heart of readers. They develop players using encouragement and direction. They recognize the power of words, and use them wisely.
