When you see an emergency vehicle, tow truck, or other authorized vehicle stopped on the side of the road with flashing lights, remember New York State’s Move Over Law!

🚗 Move over at least one lane when it is safe to do so. If you cannot safely move over, slow down to a reasonable speed and proceed with caution.

Our first responders work hard to keep our communities safe. Let’s do our part to protect them by staying alert, giving them space, and driving responsibly.

Wading River Fire Department Open House 2026

On Sunday, October 4th, the Wading River Fire Department invited the local community to visit the Headquarters firehouse and see EMS and heavy rescue demonstrations, take firetruck rides, and get a glimpse of what the volunteers do to be ever-ready when someone in the community is in need of help.

1st Lieutenant Matthew Jakubowsky honored as Suffolk County District 1 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year

On September 16th, a group of Wading River Fire Department members joined Suffolk County Legislator Greg Doroski and all of the Suffolk County Legislators in honoring Wading River Fire Department First Lieutenant Matthew Jakubowsky as the District 1 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year during a special Suffolk County Legislature ceremony.
Lieutenant Jakubowsky joined the Wading River Fire Department in 2023 and quickly distinguished himself through his dedication to training, leadership, and service.
As an officer, he has played an important role in rebuilding Station 2 following its closure, helping to revitalize the station and strengthen the department’s service to the Wading River community
Lieutenant Jakubowsky, has pursued extensive training through the Suffolk County Fire Academy, FEMA and other organizations. He completed Fire Officer I and earned national certification as a hazardous materials technician through the Center for Domestic Preparedness, in addition to advanced coursework in firefighting, rescue operations and officer development.
Lieutenant Jakubowski's service was also recognized by the Wading River Fire Department when he received the Chief’s Award and earned 147 points as a High Points Award recipient for 2025.
