💙 A day in the life 💙at the Ebeye Spartan Summer camp. Usually I’d be heading over there for the whole month of July. This year since I can’t be with them, I’ll be sharing stories and information in hopes of truly reaching some of you instead. ✨ I am so lucky to be able to hang out with the most amazing kids every day, teach them all about marine science and management, and inspire them to be Leaders for their families, peers and communities. They inspire me to be fiercely present and flexible amidst challenge and change. ✨ Amidst the current situation now, more than ever, I encourage you to open your mind and heart and LEARN about these islands, these people, and our collective history. The Marshall Islands is still an “insular island territory” of the United States. Our largest missile firing army installation is literally a stones throw away from this place. More people from these islands live both here in Oahu, throughout Hawaii and all over the mainland than most realize. There are prevalent issues around discrimination and misplaced judgement and blame that, in my opinion, stem from a serious lack of both interest and understanding. ✨ So, are you curious? Are you committed to learning and growing into a more aware and compassionate being? Start by learning about and practicing inclusivity towards people who you wouldn’t normally spend time with, the people who wouldn’t normally “check the boxes” of who you’d reach out to and why. Get out of your own head and world for a bit - especially if it’s all sunshine and rainbows - and immerse into someone else’s. I promise it builds character and humility. Its time to wake up.
