st with sweeping views of the Vaca Mountains across the valley and perched at 400 feet elevation the vineyard is nestled in the dense forest in the foothills of Spring Mountain. With a unique microclimate, the evenings cool off dramatically during ripening season producing much higher acid levels. Due to the steep slope the vineyard is entirely hand farmed and meticulously hand harvested. Harvesting is performed in four different picks before dawn based on the perfect ripeness of each block. Everything we do is in pursuit of delivering perfection in the bottle. From hand farming all year to selecting only the perfect grapes using the optical sorter and then aging in 100% new French oak barrels for 20 months, we make no compromises at any step of the winemaking. Our winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown painstakingly produces gorgeous wines which are the true and perfect representation of our terroir.

Love this man! For decades Aubert de Villaine has brought joy to our lives with his friendship and beautiful wines. Even though he has stepped down from being the figurehead of the world’s most iconic winery, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, he continues to host us all and share his perspectives of each vintage. We had a lovely morning tasting the 2022 vintage followed by more DRC vintages during lunch. He is such a kind and generous man and makes such an impact on his community. Will share with you the wines we experienced in my next posting.
