Termites and carpenter ants are swarming, do you know the dangerous difference?

Termites have cream colored, light brown, or translucent straight and even bodies with straight antennae, and wings that are equal in size that overlap. These wings can be discarded after swarms by infestation sites.

Carpenter ants have dark brown or black bodies that are pinched at the waist, with elbowed (bent) antennae, and a pair of wings that are longer in the front, shorter in the back. Not all carpenter ants have wings, and come in different sizes.

Tick season is here, are you ready?

Most tick species lay their eggs in the spring, after wintering over in places such as wooded areas, parks, and even suburban yards. These eggs hatch into nymphs and immediately start their quest for a meal. That meal can be the blood of wildlife, a domestic pet, or a human. Ticks spread various diseases such as Lyme Disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, and Alpha-gal Syndrome. The most common tick species in Massachusetts include the American Dog Tick, Black-legged Deer Tick, and the Lone Star Tick.

Are you getting ticked off by the presence of ticks in your yard? Here is how you can prevent these invaders:
The most effective way to keep ticks at bay is to implement preventative treatments such as routine pest control visits to knock down populations before they can multiply. Other ways that can help in conjunction are as follows. Clean up brush, leaf piles, and other natural debris in your yard. Keep grass short, and shrubs trimmed. Applying insect repellent to both humans and pets and wearing clothing that covers the body.

For prevention and treatment for all your pest needs, inquire with Bay State Pest Control’s professional team where, "One call eliminates them all".

Don’t Let Mice Move In This Winter!

As the weather cools and winter approaches, mice start seeking warm, cozy places to nest, and your home can be the perfect spot. These tiny intruders can squeeze through holes as small as a pencil eraser, slipping in through cracks, vents, or gaps around doors and foundations.
Once inside, mice can cause major headaches, from chewed wires and contaminated food to structural damage and health risks.

Common signs of a mouse problem include:

- Small droppings near food sources or along baseboards
- Scratching or scurrying sounds in walls or ceilings at night
- Gnawed food packaging, cardboard boxes, or insulation

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, it’s time to act fast! Mice reproduce quickly, and a small issue can turn into a serious infestation before you know it.

Bay State Pest Control can help protect your home this season. Our licensed technicians will inspect and treat for mice while determining entry points.

As the temperatures drop and winter approaches, rodents like mice begin searching for food and shelter. Mice can squeeze through openings as small as a pencil eraser and will find any crack, gap, or crevice to get indoors. Once inside, they’ll look for food, water, and warmth, especially during the colder months.
Over the past year, we’ve seen a significant increase in rodent activity, both indoors and outdoors. Warmer-than-average winters have led to rodent populations growing rapidly.

Noticing any of these signs around your home?
- Droppings (often found near food sources, under sinks, or along baseboards)
- Scratching or scurrying sounds in walls or ceilings, especially at night
- Chewed wires, boxes, or food packaging
- Nests made of shredded paper, insulation, or fabric
- A stale, musky odor in enclosed areas

Any of these may indicate signs of mice within your home.

Bay State Pest Control is here to prevent and eliminate rodent problems before they get out of control.

Call us today to schedule an inspection!

Bee season is upon us! The warmer weather brings out the stinging insects - take a look at this chart to identify which ones you see buzzing around your property! They look pretty similar, but can be quite different.

Cicada Killers live in the ground and are solitary - as in they are not social. They don’t have colonies! They can sting, but generally are not aggressive, while different species such as Digger Wasps can be aggressive.

Yellow Jackets are social - they do have colonies. If you see one yellow jacket, chances are there are many more around!

Carpenter bees are a wood destroying organism who make perfect circular holes. They are solitary, and you may see them nest in decks, eaves, rafters, fascia boards, siding, wooden shake roofs, decks, etc. and may cause structural damage overtime.

Call Bay State Pest Control if you have concerns about stinging insects on your property!
