This November, City of Walker voters will consider a dedicated 10 year, 1.75 mill public safety ballot proposal that, if approved, would enhance police & fire services to meet our community's growing needs.

This November, City of Walker voters will consider a dedicated 10-year, 1.75-mill public safety ballot proposal that, if approved, would enhance police & fire services to meet the community's growing needs.

Over the past decade, Walker has experienced significant growth, transforming from a largely rural community into a modern urban city.

As the city has grown, demand for emergency services has increased, placing additional pressure on firefighters, police officers & emergency response infrastructure.

If approved, the millage would provide a dedicated funding source to support & enhance Walker's police and fire operations over the next 10 years.

UPDATE: The August CPR class mentioned below is FULL! We also have a waiting list started in case anyone drops out.

Due to the overwhelming interest, we will host another class, likely this fall. Stay tuned to this page for additional info on that!

****************************************

As firefighters, we prioritize training & prevention. Part of our mission is to extend this focus into the community, as YOU are often the first responder in an emergency before professional help arrives.

That's why we are now offering another public Heartsaver CPR/AED course for community members.

This course provides hands-on training in lifesaving skills, including CPR & the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), giving you the confidence to act in an emergency.

The class is open to anyone interested in learning these important skills. Whether at home, work, or in the community, being prepared to respond can make a critical difference.

🔸 When: Saturday, August 15, from 9 am - 2 pm
🔸 Where: Fire Station 2, 4101 Lake Michigan Dr NW
🔸 Cost: FREE
🔸 RSVP: Email Firefighter Christian Hennells at [email protected]

Today, Walker Fire is conducting our annual fire hose testing. Approximately 25,000 feet of fire hose will be tested.

Each section is inspected & pressure tested to ensure it remains safe, reliable, & ready for service when needed.

While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it plays a critical role in keeping our firefighters safe & ensuring we can continue providing the highest level of service to our community.

Did You Know?

Walker Fire Department transitioned to a 24/7 department last fall, returning to around-the-clock staffing for the first time in nearly 90 years?

The change came after a community risk assessment identified critical public safety gaps caused by community growth.

The assessment specifically identified risks from delayed response times during nighttime hours.

With 24/7 coverage at two of our three stations and enhanced training efforts, we’re grateful to report response times have improved.
