Yes, the world of wine can be a little intimidating, although this is less true in the laid back Walla Walla Valley. You're not likely to hear much pretentious blather from wine snobs, and when you do, just grin. It's likely that anyone overhearing it is either grimacing or smirking, at least inwardly. So, you can relax, no one is going to judge your wine tasting prowess.
