Immersion at The Rocks AVA, near Walla Walla. These vines were planted in a 18-foot deep layer of cobbles moved into place by the ancient Missoula Flood. Predominately Syrah and Cab, and a bit of Viogner. Note the photo of hail damage from August 11. It’s been a tough year for these grapes, which were also impacted by the February freeze that affected the entire west coast. Harvest is running about 3 weeks behind normal and may come as late as October this season.

RIP Harriet Stimson Bullitt. A remarkable person who I was fortunate enough to work together with in conservation work of Icicle Creek. May her legacy live on and inspire us all.

Harriet Bullitt was part of a family whose legacy includes the creation of King Broadcasting and a foundation that has poured more than $200 million into environmental causes.
