Here’s something that may surprise many of you. Color photographs have not been around for that long! When Eastman Kodak brought color film and prints into existence in the 1930’s. Even though it was available, we did not see much to be common till decades later. I can remember my Senior Studio Portrait being done here in Walla Walla in the summer of 1969 and the main portrait my parents purchased and invested the most in started out being black and white, then sepia toned, then hand oiled to get it colored. The rest of my portraits were black and white. The very next year, my brother had his done by the same studio and color film was used for the first time! No more hand oiled portraits. Unfortunately the film, color paper of those new days were not as stable as they have been getting since and in most cases are very good today. Most color photographs prior to the mid 1980’s are now turning or have turned into monochromatic colors (even color portraits I’ve taken when I opened my studio in 1973) as well as faded to various degrees depending on how they’ve been displayed or stored. The good news is that through sound photo restoration we have been able to bring back most of these irreplaceable color photographs! See examples on our webpage and contact us if you’re interested in getting a free estimate. We are here to help families extend the priceless memories of these one of a kind family heirlooms!
