🚨📢 If your practice uses eAssist for billing — read this today.

Over Labor Day weekend, a ransomware group called Dire Wolf posted a listing claiming to hold data from eAssist Dental Solutions, a widely used dental billing and insurance company. They say the data hasn’t been released yet There’s reportedly a countdown clock before it might be.

To be clear: this is an unverified claim from a criminal group, published specifically to pressure a company into paying. The numbers may be inflated. eAssist is a well known vendor, and this could happen to any billing partner in this industry.

But here’s why it matters right now: if the claim is even partly accurate, it reportedly includes insurance carrier portal logins and practice management/remote access passwords tied to thousands of dental offices. A stolen password is only dangerous if it still works.

If your office uses eAssist — or ever has — do this now:
✅ Change your insurance carrier portal passwords
✅ Change practice management & remote access credentials
✅ Turn on (or re-enroll) multi-factor authentication
✅ Ask eAssist in writing what data of yours is involved
✅ Call your HIPAA compliance partner — not just your IT company to help shore things up
✅ Brief your front desk on phishing, since old billing threads could be used to craft convincing fake emails
You don’t have to believe a criminal’s claims to change a password. You just have to accept nobody can rule it out yet.

As always — don’t go looking for the leak site yourself. There’s nothing actionable there, and visiting it can create a problem you didn’t have.
