This home was more than 4,000 square feet, and our team completed the entire project before the homeowners returned from vacation. Careful planning, clear communication, and an organized crew allowed us to deliver a major transformation on schedule.

- Filled minor nail holes and surface imperfections

Good morning Cincinnati, Ohio! Slye’s Painting recently completed this front porch ceiling and column staining project for a local homeowner. There’s just something about natural wood that makes a porch feel warm and inviting.

This was already a beautiful outdoor space, but the pine ceiling and cedar columns were still raw and unfinished. We came in to give the wood the protection it needed while preserving the natural grain and character that made it special in the first place.

Here’s a description of what was done!

Preparation:
⦁ Cleaned the unfinished wood surfaces
⦁ Lightly sanded rough areas as needed
⦁ Removed dust and surface debris
⦁ Protected the siding, composite decking, furniture, landscaping, and surrounding surfaces
⦁ Prepared the pine and cedar for an even stain application
Wood staining:
⦁ Stained the pine tongue and groove porch ceiling
⦁ Stained the cedar porch columns
⦁ Stained the column bases, caps, and other included wood details
⦁ Applied the stain carefully to enhance the natural grain and create a consistent finish

What I like most about projects like this is that the change isn’t loud. It simply makes the entire space feel more complete. The stain added warmth and depth to the pine ceiling and cedar columns while allowing the natural wood grain to remain the main feature.

Besides improving the appearance, staining unfinished exterior wood helps protect it from moisture, sunlight, and Cincinnati’s changing weather conditions.
