These pictures are for Roland and all others who wondered if I got to see the Kelpies in Scotland. I did get to see them, and they are MAGNIFICENT!!
Their names are Duke and Baron, but you'll have to research which one is which. I don't remember.
The mythical Kelpies are shape-shifting water horses. They would invite weary travelers onto their backs, but would then plunge into the water to drown and devour the weary traveler.
The Kelpies shown here were constructed to honor the Clydesdale horses that helped barges move along Scotland's canals, much like mules helped move barges along NY state's Erie Canal.
