Well that’s May in the books. A much slower pace than April. So much so that we got some training in on many power tools that we don’t use as much. Stay safe out in our district and let’s have this month be like last month!

This Memorial Day weekend, we will have extra deputies on the roadways throughout Berkeley County to help keep our community safe.

This holiday weekend is one of the busiest travel periods of the year, and with increased traffic comes an increased risk for serious crashes. Our focus is simple: prevention, visibility, and enforcement to ensure everyone makes it home safely.

If you plan to drink, plan ahead before you ever leave your home or your gathering:
🔑 Designate a sober driver in advance
🚕 Use a rideshare service, taxi, or arrange a safe ride with a trusted friend or family member

Driving under the influence is not just illegal, it is deadly. Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, slow reaction times, and increase the likelihood of life-changing or fatal crashes. One poor decision can impact not only the driver, but innocent families sharing the roadway.

Our deputies will be conducting enhanced patrols and enforcement operations throughout the weekend, focusing on impaired driving and dangerous behaviors. If you choose to drink and drive, you will be stopped.

Impaired drivers can be reported by dialing *HP or 843-719-4505.

We’re seeing a lot of questions lately about the difference between e-bikes and mopeds under South Carolina law, so we’re sharing this infographic to help clear things up.

These vehicles may look similar, but they are not treated the same under the law. Differences in speed capability, motor size, and classification can impact where they can be operated, whether registration is required, and what safety rules apply.

Before you ride, take a moment to know the rules:
🛣️ Not all e-bikes are street legal on roadways or sidewalks
📃 Some mopeds must be registered and meet equipment requirements
🪖Helmet and age requirements may apply depending on classification

We encourage riders and parents to review this information carefully before purchasing or operating either type of vehicle. A quick understanding of the law can prevent crashes, citations, and confusion.

Stay safe, ride responsibly, and when in doubt, check before you go.
