🐟 It’s herring run season in Massachusetts — one of the clearest signs of spring on the South Coast!🐟

River herring spend most of their lives in the Atlantic Ocean before returning each spring to the same freshwater rivers and ponds where they were born.

Maintaining healthy herring runs takes ongoing care and stewardship. Over the past year, significant work was done to improve and prepare this run for the season ahead, and this year’s migration has not disappointed! Seeing thousands of fish successfully moving upstream is a rewarding reminder of why habitat maintenance and restoration matter.

We had a great time at today’s Kiwanis Cinco de Mayo 5K Run/Walk! Special thanks to the Wareham High School students who volunteered and cheered on the runners! Excellent work by the team at South Shore Race Management LLC as usual. Proceeds from this event and others allow the Kiwanis Club of Bourne Wareham to send Key Club students to camp where they help children facing cancer, and allow students to attend the International Key Club Convention each year.
