SOAR's cemetery restoration project received its crowning glory when Home Depot volunteers donated their time to install a split rail fence around the Waretown Old Presbyterian Cemetery. All materials were donated by Home Depot, and SOAR extends its sincere thanks to Home Depot and to the Vietnam Veterans Association for helping to arrange for the donation. We also thank Waretown's Mayor Tina Wetter and Deputy Mayor Dennis Tredy for attending this important event that honored the Civil War veterans interred in this historic cemetery. "An embarrassment of riches" is being excavated in Baltimore's Herring Run Park at the site of Eutaw Manor, which burned down in 1865. The property was first settled in 1695 and, at the time of its fire, was occupied by Baltimore politician and merchant William Smith, who some call a Revolutionary War profiteer. http://bsun.md/1GfLURw

Beneath the tall trees and wildflowers of Baltimore's Herring Run Park, the ground holds clues to the city's distant past.

A Boston archaeologist is excavating 30 test pits in a playground; research shows the area was once the site of an 18th century homestead and a nearby hill may have been used by Native Americans. http://bit.ly/1KKejOD

Crews will excavate approximately 30 small test units during a 1-2 week period. The entirety of the playground and surrounding park will remain open to the public during the project and all pathways and equipment will remain open.

A collection of ancient Greek and Roman coins includes an incredibly rare aureus of the Roman emperor Otho, who reigned for a mere three months. The Greek coins were struck by some of the most powerful city-states and rulers of the ancient world, such as Athens, Corinth and Alexander the Great.
