This is why I ALWAYS turn OFF windows automatic updates! they cause way more problems than benefits.
Can’t tell you how many countless machines I’ve recovered that crashed over the last 20+ years due to windows automatic updates. This happens at a smaller scale ALL the time. They push a TON of updates to users and leave the debugging to the consumer, with their crash reports.
To turn off auto updates in windows 10+ (except home version) via group policy editor settings:
1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
2. Type “gpedit.msc” and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor.
3. Navigate to “Computer Configuration” > “Administrative Templates” > “Windows Components” > “Windows Update.”
4. Double-click on “Configure Automatic Updates” to open the settings.
5. Select the “Disabled” option to turn off automatic updates.
6. Click on “Apply” and then “OK” to save the changes.
Alternativly you can LIMIT windows update to notify you before any installs with enable & option 2: (3rd photo)
