Long before Groundhog Day, there was the Cailleach and Imbolc. The Cailleach, according to Gaelic folklore, was the witch of winter and the guardian of the home and hearth. On February 1st, the Cailleach would gather more firewood for the fire if it was bright and sunny, meaning winter would last longer. If it was dreary outside, then it meant winter would be ending soon. The ancient Celts would honor her by leaving gifts of stones, bread, or milk outside the doorway on the evening of January 31st. Celebrations included lighting candles, one for each heartbeat that lives in the home, songs around the hearth, and feasting to mark the coming of the longer days and the return of the sun.

We are deeply saddened to have to share the news of Chris Bailey’s passing. He was surrounded by his loving family when he crossed over. His impact on the lives he touched and the love he shared will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Elisabeth, the boys, his mother, brother and all who mourn his loss during this incredibly difficult time. May Chris find peace, and may his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

Many thanks to all those who’ve been able to donate, who have shared, and who have sent prayers. We have officially reached 25% of our targeted goal in less than a week. FYI- Chris’s wife Elisabeth just posted an update regarding Chris’s treatment in the link below. Chris continues to have a rough road ahead, but is able to tolerate the treatment thus far. Please continue to send prayers and good thoughts to Chris and his family.
