📜 Flashback Friday
On June 14, 1865, Pennsylvania's oil region got its first daily newspaper when brothers William and Henry Bloss published the Titusville Herald, a four-page broadsheet that quickly grew to a circulation of more than 300.
Among the stories in the first edition was a surprising reference to John Wilkes Booth's oil interests in the region. The newspaper reported that Booth had purchased a one-thirteenth interest in an oil territory in August 1864 and noted that a well in which he was involved was reportedly destroyed by fire on the same day he assassinated President Abraham Lincoln.
From drilling wells to printing headlines, Pennsylvania's oil region was making history in more ways than one.

📦 On this day in 1957, Bubble Wrap® was invented.

Originally designed as textured wallpaper (yes, really), it became one of the most recognizable packaging materials in the world.

And what is Bubble Wrap made from?

👉 Polyethylene plastic, a product derived from oil and natural gas.

From protecting fragile shipments to satisfying our urge to pop every bubble in sight, energy is part of everyday life in ways most people never think about.

🏊‍♀️ Making a splash this summer? Oil and natural gas help make it possible.

From the materials used in swimsuits, goggles, pool liners, and flotation devices to the energy that helps heat pools and power recreation facilities, oil and natural gas play an important role in many of the products and conveniences we enjoy during swimming season.

As families head to the pool, lake, or beach, it's a reminder that energy is part of everyday life—often in ways we don't even think about.

Enjoy a safe and fun summer in the water! ☀️🌊

Pennsylvania's natural gas impact fee continues to deliver benefits across the Commonwealth. Since 2012, Act 13 has generated nearly $3 billion for local communities, supporting infrastructure improvements, environmental projects, emergency services, and economic development in all 67 counties. In 2024 alone, the impact fee generated more than $164 million to help strengthen communities statewide.

📊 The Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office (IFO) has released its latest natural gas production and pricing update for the first quarter of 2026.
Key takeaways:
▪️ Pennsylvania natural gas production totaled 1,928 Bcf, down 0.8% from the prior year—the first annual decline in quarterly production since Q4 2024.
▪️ New horizontal wells spud increased 7.4% year-over-year, though preliminary April and May data suggest activity has slowed in Q2.
▪️ Pennsylvania spot hub prices averaged $5.22, up 41.5% from the prior year, driven in part by Winter Storm Fern and January price spikes.
▪️ While nationwide natural gas production increased 4.3%, Pennsylvania growth lagged many other top-producing states.
▪️ Preliminary Q2 data indicate prices have eased significantly, with Pennsylvania prices falling below Henry Hub by approximately $0.80.
These trends highlight the dynamic market conditions facing Pennsylvania's natural gas industry and the importance of policies that support continued investment and development.
