We often get asked if we take old gas, and the answer is yes, we do. The next question often becomes Can I get the gas can back, and the answer is, again, yes. We do not take old containers and ask that you take them with you to dispose of. A container holding gas or oil can not be recycled (even if the container is plastic) and needs to be thrown away or reused. If you have any questions, as always, give us a call, and we would love to direct you in the right direction. 574-372-3087

There has been a change in how we process batteries, and it is now important that we sort batteries. This means we need you to keep like batteries together when you bring them in to us. (Alkaline with alkaline, lithium with lithium, nickel with nickel, buttons with buttons) It is important to keep your batteries in non-conductive and non-flammable containers such as plastic tubs or bags. Never use metal cans or cardboard. Want to go the extra step to keep them safe while waiting to bring them in? Tape both ends of the batteries.

Any mixed containers of batteries brought in to the KC Recycling Depot will be turned away until sorted. So start reading those batteries and keep them in separate containers. Let us know if you have any questions 574-372-3087

From phones and laptops to toys and tools, many of our favorite things run on batteries. But when tossed in the trash or recycling bin, these batteries can spark intense fires that are nearly impossible to stop.

Battery fires are happening more often. They’ve destroyed homes, burned down garbage trucks and recycling centers, and—tragically—taken lives. When a facility goes up in flames, trash and recycling services can be shut down for weeks or even months. The good news? Battery fires are easy to prevent.

Just remember: never throw batteries in the trash or recycling bin. Always tape the ends and drop them off at our safe collection site here at KC Recycling Depot.
