The Frame - Issue 27

'For the past eighteen months we have been working with the Northern Council for Global Cooperation on co-creating a series of workshops under the heading Alternatives to Development. The goal of the project is “to reimagine a world that upholds the integrity, respect and dignity of all in ways that foster justice, equality and sustainability”.

Beginning by interrogating underlying biases and their origins, we’re interested in forging new and innovative approaches to building global solidarity. Part of this has meant going back and reflecting on the canon of decolonial literature which has traceable origins dating back to the 1940s and 1950s, with works by the likes of Aime Cesaire, Frantz Fanon, and Albert Memmi.'

This month we're tracing decolonial literature through time. As part of our collaboration with the Northern Council for Global Cooperation, we've been reflecting on the biases undergirding international development and coallating our resources as we go.

The newsletter serves as a very brief introduction to the key ideas, authors, and geographies of decolonial literature from the 1940's until the present.

🌻🌷🌼 UPDATE 🌻🌷🌼

With artwork by Awo Tsegah – who you might remember from our stint at the 2023 Venice Biennale – we’re playing with more hopeful, speculative worldings. In our quest to build fruitful and sustainable communities, we orient ourselves around hope, compassion, and joy. Awo’s art captures and embodies this ethic perfectly.

📢Coming up soon📢

We just had our third birthday and as a treat we're revamping our website and adding a few new faces to the team.

Our work is about building safe and sustainable communities, about finding the commonalities that bind us together and strengthening them. This translates into the way we bring together individuals from all walks of life, with backgrounds in a vast array of disciplines and practices - to help us take on seemingly insurmountable challenges. Ultimately, we hope that Frame45 itself can become a community.

Want to know what we're reading and doing this year?

This week, we'll be sharing our top ten things to look forward to in 2024. From books and reviews to conferences and film festivals, we've cherry picked the things we're most excited about. All the entries on this list bring some new insight into conversations around migration and urbanisation, and centre otherwise marginalised persepctives.

Wary of the academy's tendency to overemphasise written publications we've put equal emphasis on film and sound based projects, as well as in-person events. We hope there's something in there for everyone.
