Announcement: On behalf of our client Plaintiff #1, the Somaliland Mission and the Somaliland Support Organization have been successfully served by process servers in connection to the torture and murder of Victim #1 in Las Anod by Somaliland regime troops.

The Somaliland regime refers to the noted organizations as official representatives of Somaliland in the US. In reality, both organizations are corporate entities registered in Virginia and are not accorded any diplomatic status by the US government or the UN. The organizations and their associates in the US have been sued under the Alien Tort Statute and the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991.

Plaintiff #1 alleges that the Somaliland Mission and the Somaliland Support Organization were used to identify and track US citizens of Somali descent on US soil, including Victim #1, who were deemed troublesome by the regime for arrest, torture, or murder when they arrived in areas of Northern Somalia controlled by the regime. All in violation of 18 U.S. Code § 2, 18 U.S. Code § 2340A, 18 U.S.C. § 371, 18 U.S.C. 1028(a)(7).

Our process servers are attempting to locate two known associates of the noted organizations. We will use every means allowed by law to ensure they are duly served

The news that over 400 civilians in the Amhara region were killed as troops loyal to Prime Minister Abiy and his former allies battle each other is very alarming. The slaughter of Oromos, Tigrayan, and now Amhara civilians should be universally condemned.

It is a war crime to target civilians, and unless Abiy Ahmed Ali and his allies are called to account for the deaths of Oromos, Somalis, Tigrayan, and now Amhara civilians, what other ethnic group will be the next to see their civilians population bombed? Will it be the Sidamas, the Gurages, or Afars?

No matter how much Prime Minister Abiy & co attacks us, Von Batten-Montague-York will continue to engage with Congress and the Biden Administration on the Ethiopian issue. He should know by now that we will not stop.

As the brutal Somaliland regime continues to shell the town of Las Anod and machine-gun more men, women, and children, a proposed pro-Somaliland amendment (SA 821) to the Senate version of the NDAA was introduced in the Senate. SA 821 is identical to the now-blocked House amendment #933, which many members of the US House of Representatives found objectionable.

We are engaging with members of the Senate to brief them on SA 821. The amendment objective violates the Leahy Laws, which bars the US from providing military and economic assistance to countries guilty of gross human rights violations. It is not in the American spirit to provide cover to war criminals.

Lawyers for the Somaliland regime asked the judge to (1) Extend the deadline to respond to Plaintiff #1 lawsuit for the murder of Victim # 1 in Las Anod. (2) Dismiss the case for lack of standing.

The judge refused to dismiss the case and extended the deadline to August 14, 2023
