my Poem ”Lilac Luck” honoring Purple Heart Day August 7th 💜♠️. Its dedicated to all those who were wounded or lost in combat. Received mine on Valentine’s Day from my platoon commanders father, who’s son earned his and was lost fighting too. Lilac Luck:

Iron from the Afghan dust will never let us settle

What didn’t scatter in the wind forged flesh to metal

Wounds that would have seen a samurai slain

In the modern era left us to live in pain

Farther lived than better fathers lost

From a dream in the water maybe nightmares were the cost

Granted, never taking moments for waste with a lilac heart

The last Kevlar knights would had given anything for the novel start

If hammering in the fire can’t break a soul

What’s left should wreak of hope, love and to keep their spirit whole.
