Incredibly productive session with DPIE at Permit Palooza this morning. Very excited about working with PG county!
In addition to learning important facets of the permit process, I was able to submit a construction violation as DPIE department was present in full force providing the public access to key stakeholders.
You see, during my workday, I traveled by an infill being developed. I realized, it wasn’t needing to wear my glasses one day. I was seeing the bottom two stories of the house were Tyveked (house wrap, a product that is directional) backwards and the letters were backwards and the color of the wrap lighter.
On one drive by, I noticed the GC logo and stopped to approach a supervisor. He listened and thanked me. Yet, as construction continued, siding got applied, and the Tyvek remained unchanged. Life goes on for me and The house sells.
Here’s the rub: As time passes the Tyvek placement will direct moisture back into the wall cavity and over time moisture will accumulate. The homeowner, likely unfamiliar, would not look here for a remedy that should never have happened.
For 2 to 3 rolls of Tyvek, this company chose not to repair a compromised wall assembly that could negatively impact the homeowners health, and reduce the value of the property.
As we experience more weather events and temperature changes, the building enclosure is an integral part of maintaining energy efficiency and basic safety.
Be well! Be kind.
