Between hantavirus spreading beyond a cruise ship outbreak and Ebola resurging in the DRC and Uganda – and the related talk of travel restrictions, vaccines, and major event cancellations – it’s feeling a little too much like February 2020. Or 2014 in Liberia. Or 2009 in Mexico.

“We’ve been here before” isn’t something you want to hear when it comes to disease, but you do when it comes to managing the response.

Learn more about our 25 years of experience in navigating public health crises – and why the organizations that survive are the ones that prepared well before the crisis hit.

President Trump has arrived in China for a summit with President Xi – the first meeting between the two leaders in nearly a decade. But Trump and Xi are very different leaders than they were nine years ago. Will it open new opportunities and create a more predictable business environment? Or will it amount to little more than symbolism?

We're watching closely. Qorvis was the first public relations firm hired by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to help shape its public face in the United States. For more than 25 years, we have advised governments, trade associations, and companies navigating some of the world’s most challenging bilateral relationships.

Qorvis Partner Rich Masters – who led our Embassy work and has advised governments and organizations worldwide on strategic communications – explains what to expect from the summit and what it could mean for business.

Today, the Supreme Court ruled 6–3 to block Louisiana’s congressional map that created a second majority-Black district in the state. The decision bars the state from using the map in future elections, which the dissenting justices warned weakens key provisions of the Voting Rights Act.

Qorvis Partner Rich Masters, who worked in Louisiana politics and broadcasting, explains the impact of the ruling and what it means for Louisiana’s upcoming election and the national debates around gerrymandering.

What is normally a celebratory, irreverent evening turned into a surreal breaking news moment – and potential crisis.

As events unfolded at the Washington Hilton, we watched in disbelief as reports came in from our colleagues inside the ballroom and the situation escalated. We were glad to be surrounded by friends at Butterworth's, where we paused to gather information and share updates in real time.

We’re especially grateful to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response to ensure the safety of everyone in the ballroom.

As the situation became clearer, the after-party hosts collectively decided to move forward with the evening. We joined Ambassador Dr. Ralf Heckner at the Embassy of Switzerland for the party that is always the highlight of the weekend – a bit more subdued than usual, given what had just occurred, but a welcome chance to let our hair down together.

Thank you to and the team at .club for keeping the drinks flowing and the mood steady, to Ambassador Dr. Ralf Heckner and Dr. Ilaria Macconi Heckner for opening their home in the midst of the uncertainty, and to all of our guests for joining us at this extraordinary moment in history.

We’ll continue to follow developments closely and unpack what this means in the days ahead.
