Today, we honor the first peoples of this land. People whose presence, traditions, and wisdom endure despite centuries of attempted erasure.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day is not only about remembering what was taken, but recognizing what has survived. It’s about truth-telling in a country that has yet to reconcile its past with its present. In a world facing climate crisis, land theft, and cultural displacement, Indigenous communities remind us what it means to live in balance, to protect what sustains us, and to value community over conquest. May today be a call to listen more deeply, to name injustice more clearly, and to live with greater respect for the land beneath our feet and the people who have always known how to care for it.
Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
