As the end of the fiscal year, 2020 approached both Censeo and our GSA client (the FSGC Facilitator) reflected on the significant work that had been accomplished in the preceding 12 months. In order to measure our success, we conducted a deep dive through the archives of the FSGC to find out how many business cases were reviewed, the number of dollars allocated, and the cost avoidance due to the FSGC’s review. In doing so, we discovered there was a momentous amount of institutional knowledge that had been gained since Censeo helped to establish the FSGC back in 2018. This impactful discovery led to the creation of the FSGC accomplishments and lessons learned insight piece. As COVID-19 continues to impact the country, small businesses have been left particularly vulnerable. Faced with decreasing sales, many have turned to the government market segment only to find it complex and difficult to navigate. On behalf of Amazon.com, Censeo surveyed over 450 small businesses registered to do business with federal, state, and local governments to identify the unique barriers these businesses face trying to sell to government customers. 93% of respondents reported facing significant barriers to selling to the government, demonstrating the need to improve the accessibility of government customers to small businesses. While there are no simple solutions, human resource policies can greatly impact workplace experiences. As detailed in this Society for Human Resource Management article (https://bit.ly/3fKl4Xx), employee handbooks are being more inclusive of gender diversity by replacing all gendered terms with non-gendered pronouns. This is a small but important policy change that organizations can enact to build inclusive environments. Censeo recently began updating our employee handbook with such changes. At Censeo, diversity, and inclusion (D&I) are essential to living our values. During the month of May, our D&I team will facilitate conversations and share content around different facets of diversity, inclusion, and how we employ these concepts at Censeo. The theme for this week is "Equality vs. Equity". The coronavirus pandemic has impacted all of us. While we as colleagues have felt the collective impact of COVID-19, as we practice social distancing and work from home full-time, we as individuals have felt the impact in unique and personal ways. As such, we each need different types of support to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
