Indigo Unbound

Indigo Unbound Our freedom to lead boldly begins with the state of our health. Some would call this magic. We call it power.

IndigoWomen is more than a coaching and consulting practice--it’s a movement to co-create spaces, methods, and conditions for Black women in leadership to thrive. At IndigoWomen, we seek to inspire and equip Black women in leadership to rejuvenate their minds, bodies, and spirits so that they can lead authentically, effectively, and sustainably. For centuries, Black women have been quietly respons

ible for leading familial, organizational, communal, societal, and global transformation--all while receiving the least amount of relevant and meaningful support for their basic health, leadership, and human needs. When a Black woman awakens her divine power, cultivates it in the company of other Black women, and channels it toward her life’s purpose, her influence is limitless and felt for generations. At IndigoWomen, we reimagine and clear the path for what Black women in leadership can experience, create, and mobilize when their wholeness is prioritized and nurtured.

If you've been wondering whether this month's theme is for you — it is.

Even if you don't have children.

Conscious Parenting this month is for:

The adult child still healing from the parenting they received.

The person navigating what it means to care for an aging parent.

The leader who sees their family patterns showing up in their team.

The aunt, uncle, mentor, or community member helping raise someone else's child.

The person who chose not to have children — and whose sense of self was shaped by the family system they grew up in.

Everyone has a family story.

And most of us are still living inside of it.

This month, we examine it together.

One of the most honest questions a conscious parent can ask:

Where am I leading from fear — and where am I leading from love?

Not as a judgment.

As information.

Because fear-based parenting and love-based parenting can look identical from the outside.

The difference lives inside.

In the tightness in your chest when your child pushes back.

In the urgency you feel when they make a mistake.

In the relief you feel when they comply — not because they've learned something, but because the tension has passed.

Fear-based parenting is not bad parenting.

It is parenting from a nervous system that hasn't had enough support.

And the first step toward changing it is simply telling the truth about it.

Here is something most leadership development conversations skip:

The way you lead at home is almost always a mirror of the way you lead everywhere else.

Some of us over-function at home the same way we over-function in our businesses.

Some of us avoid conflict with our children the same way we delay hard conversations with our teams.

Some of us control in our households the same way we micromanage at work.

Some of us rescue our children from discomfort the same way we rescue clients and employees from consequences they need to experience.

These patterns are not failures.

They are information.

And conscious parenting begins when we stop performing and start paying attention to what those patterns are revealing.

"We learned about honesty and integrity — that the truth matters, that you don't take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules, and success doesn't count unless you earn it fair and square." — Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama has spoken consistently about the values passed down in her family.

And that distinction is exactly where September's theme begins.

Last month we explored conscious relationships — how we give, receive, and heal the patterns we carry.

This month, we go into the most intimate relational system most of us will ever navigate:

The family.

Conscious Parenting: Raising, Releasing, Repairing, and Reimagining Family.

This month is for every parent, co-parent, single parent, blended family, adult child, and anyone whose life has been shaped by the parenting they received.

Because everyone has a family story.

And most of us are still living inside of it.

Welcome to September. 🤍

Freedom Friday 🤍

Last Friday of August.

The whole month of Conscious Relationships was building toward one question — and we want to leave you with it:

Who can love, support, challenge, and grow with the version of you that is becoming more free?

Not the version that learned to be small enough to be kept.

Not the version that over-functions or performs.

The version that is healing. Becoming whole. More honest.

That version deserves relationships that can hold it.

Carry that question into September.

And if you missed the premiere last night — The Grounded CEO is streaming now on the Zerlo Network.

Love is not just something you feel. It is something you do — consistently, honestly, even when it is uncomfortable.

But a lot of us have learned to perform love instead of embody it.

Here are 3 signs the love in your relationships may have become performance rather than practice:

1. You show up when it's visible.
You're generous and present when people are watching. But the consistent, quiet tending — the check-in nobody sees, the repair nobody asked for — doesn't happen. Love as performance needs an audience. Love as practice doesn't.

2. You give — but you can't receive.
You pour into others freely. But when someone tries to pour into you, something deflects it. Minimizes it. Returns it. Embodied love moves in both directions. If it only flows out, it's a role — not a relationship.

3. You avoid the hard conversation to preserve the harmony.
Keeping the peace at the expense of the truth is not love. It is conflict avoidance wearing love's name. Embodied love can hold honesty — even when honesty is uncomfortable.

Performing love keeps people comfortable.
Embodying love keeps relationships real.

The difference is everything.

Love that sustains is not just warmth.

It is also:

Truth over comfort.

Boundaries over constant availability.

Receiving over deflecting.

Accountability over defensiveness.

Presence over performance.

Love that can only be warm is not complete.

Love that can be honest, boundaried, receiving, accountable, and present — that is the love that sustains your next level.

"Justice is what love looks like in public."
— Dr. Cornel West

Cornel West said it simply — and it landed differently every time I came back to it.

Love is not a private feeling. It is a public practice.

And for leaders, that means the way you show up — in your relationships, your decisions, your use of power, your capacity for repair — is the evidence of whether love is actually present.

This week at Indigo Unbound, we close the month of Conscious Relationships with the fourth dimension:

Embody Love.

Not love as warmth alone.

Love as truth-telling. Boundaries. Repair. Honest conversation. Accountability. Receiving.

And perhaps most importantly for Black entrepreneurs and leaders:

Discernment about which relationships can actually hold the version of you that is becoming more free.

Because your next level requires people who do not need you to stay small in order to feel comfortable.

Welcome to Week 4. 🤍
