PhD students often struggle with balancing their academic requirements (e.g., research, course work) with non-academic opportunities that will prepare them for a career outside of academia. Gaining practical job skills as a graduate student can be extremely challenging. Obstacles such as time-management, lack of faculty or mentor support, and difficulties navigating non-academic workspaces, can leave students feeling pulled in two different directions.
