Received some good news today on a story map I helped create. A bill was passed to end driver's license suspension for unpaid fines and fees in NY. This will help people get to work to make the money to pay the fees, rather than lose a job because they can't drive to work due to a suspended license.

Here's a story map I'm making for the Florida Trash Talkers. We are still cleaning up from Hurricane Irma! Track our progress as we pull literally tons of plastics and other debris from the mangroves. https://arcg.is/zLH55

Missing the Esri Federal GIS Conference this year unfortunately, but one of the Florida maps I worked on was published in the Mapping the Nation book! I worked with Alison on this and here she is with Esri's Salim Sawaya. Suzanne Wade

A few years ago, we introduced Multi-Directional Hillshade as a server raster function on World Elevation Services and later as a tiled basemap layer to use as a backdrop for topographical, soil, mining, and other outdoor recreational maps. These layers are part of ever growing authoritative content...

Another fabulous and informative Story Map highlighting, of course, migratory birds! Having studied migratory birds and their feeding mudflats for so long, I can't help myself

How does your longest round-trip journey compare to a whimbrel's?

Whimbrels are large shorebirds that nest in the Arctic across North America and Eurasia and winter on the coasts of six continents. Follow the journey of T6, a whimbrel tracked by USGS and featured in the “Whimbrels on the Wing” story map highlighting its 9,160-mile migration from the breeding grounds on the Colville River Delta in northern Alaska to an urban beach just outside of Santiago, Chile.

In one year, T6 flew nearly 18,640 miles round trip.

Check out T6's journey here: https://arcg.is/1uXLi5.

On the drive to the conference in DC I was using ArcMap to complete some projects. Decided to try on the 1200 mile trip back, and once I figured out where everything was.....kinda like it for some things. Fast processing of data and it doesn't freeze the rest of the project while processing!

Projections seem to be the root of about 75% of any data problem I encounter. But just to get into the spirit of the day, here is a post about heart-shaped projections for your reading pleasure.

Heart shaped map projections are known as cordiform map projections which is derived from the Latin "cor" for heart and form for shape.
