In April 1970, Apollo 13’s computers were powered down, an oxygen tank had exploded, and the crew needed a precisely timed 14-second engine burn to hit the narrow corridor home. Jack Swigert timed it on his Speedmaster. Fourteen seconds, counted on a wristwatch, with three lives riding on the outcome. That October, NASA gave Omega its Silver Snoopy Award, the astronauts’ own honor for contributions to flight safety. Fifty years later, Omega built this. The silver Snoopy medallion on the blue subdial matches the actual sterling award that NASA pins on recipients. And the caseback holds the best animation in watchmaking: start the chronograph and Snoopy sails his command module around the far side of the Moon while the Earth turns once a minute below. Inside is the hand wound Master Chronometer caliber 3861. Not a limited edition, just perpetually harder to find than most watches that are. Most watches celebrate history. This one was thanked for it.
