Stops 5-7: 5 Mile Mountain, J.H. Bards, & River City Distillery

Moonshine, incredible upcoming release teasers and experimentals were the name of the game today. And donโ€™t you forget that pristine southwestern VA water.

More to come soon on this ongoing project with Virginia Spirits to highlight these incredible small craft distilleries!

The only bottle I bought at KBF ๐Ÿ‘€

Barrel 3 from Samuel Call is a fantastic pour. Almost 9 years old, 118 proof, and packed with brown sugar, dark fruit, and that unmistakable pineapple upside-down cake note.

Iโ€™m excited to be helping Samuel Call in a limited capacity with social media and barrel pick planning. More on that soon, but for now, this wh***ey speaks for itself.

Old Forester, I love you and that bottle is beautiful. Butโ€ฆ $300 for the bottle and $700 for the tasting? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I have questions.

Celebrity wh***ey gets a bad rap sometimes, but Wh***ey JYPSI Legacy Batch 003 is a good reminder not to judge the bottle just because itโ€™s associated with someone who also makes great music (Eric Church).

Ari Sussmanโ€™s blending skill continues to show here. Itโ€™s expensive at $200, but this is a genuinely interesting, well-crafted blend that brings three very different wh***eys together in a satisfying way.

Huge thanks to Two Fools One Bourbon for the 10k giveaway bottle, and congrats to Whacked Out Wh***ey Club on a seriously fun pick. ๐Ÿฅƒ

P. Cola Select is WILD โ€” raspberry jam, blueberry donut, pineapple, coconut, and a whole lot of dessert. One of the more unusual port finishes Iโ€™ve had.

Full review is up on the website. Link in bio.

Piggybacking off my American Craft Spirits Assoc. post about the challenges facing craft spirits:

Iโ€™m talking about the little guys. The independent producers putting in the work, making interesting wh***ey, and trying to get their bottles into more hands.

Brands like Frey Ranch, Middle West, Ben Holladay, Cedar Ridge, and Still Austin have built real followingsโ€”and in many cases, theyโ€™ve done a great job communicating what makes them worth seeking out.

But there are so many smaller distilleries that havenโ€™t had that same opportunity to get on peopleโ€™s radar.

Here are nine that came to mind from my own shelves. Narrowing it down was the hard part, and I know there are plenty Iโ€™m missing.

๐–๐ก๐จ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐š๐๐? Give me the small distilleries you think deserve more attention. Letโ€™s get some new names on peopleโ€™s shelves.
