It's here y'all --- Back to School season AND we're closing out 2026.

Not sure where the time went, but before we know it, we'll be singing songs of joy & peace.

Last week was a whirlwind of planning, executing, community building, learning, and LEADING ✨️

I led a group of about 40 PhD level scholars in a round-robin version of 30-second elevator pitches about their dissertation topics. After which, we grouped ourselves into overarching research topics and created sub-groups of research group cohorts so that we could have direct connections to our peers who are exploring similar research themes.

And you know I threw in a lil' pizzaz by making the itinerary a mixtape with songs that related to the sections.

It was so darn fun. Gratitude to Veronica Session-Fennell, MS, CNP & Andrea Shockling for facilitating with me, and to all the scholars who leaned in to the activity despite the nerves. Y'all are DOPE!

Hosted by On the Hunt Consulting, LLC, Da Community Cookout (C) is an opportunity to build a mutual aid ecosystem with like-minded neighbors while gaining tangible resources and training from specialists and experts.

​This Sunday Hip Hop Homestead is going to help us build our own Fire Cider! Each attendee will leave with their very own mason jar full of fire cider to prepare for those winter sniffles. We are asking that everyone bring their own knife and cutting board to slice up the goodies.

​The event is free, but donations are welcome to help cover administrative and food costs. Attendance is capped at 12 people for this session deeper-level, so register early!

Continuing the legacy of the trailblazers who came before me has always been important to me. It is the foundation of this business.

Da Community Cookout (C) @ Point Park was ELECTRIC 🔥

We gathered as undergraduate students, community members, faculty and staff, and PhD students. We played games, enjoyed the incredible food, and talked with each other about all the things that bring us JOY even in the midst of so many things meant to bring us down.

The takeaway from this event? We all contributed to an interactive community moral where attendees were given the prompts: What Roots You? What Grounds You?

The final result brought me to tears of pure joy.

Thank you to Point Park University, Dr. Tahirah Walker, and the entire Community Engagement and Leadership PhD Program for entrusting On the Hunt Consulting, LLC to be host the INAUGURAL kickoff event for the Community Engagement and Leadership Annual PhD Residency - the first ever in its 11 year history.

Much more history to come. Grateful and honored.

It hadn't dawned on me until just this morning that I'm doing something pretty epic tonight.

Da Community Cookout (C) model was an idea I had last year to celebrate my birthday and still provide tangible resources to my friends and family.

Since then On the Hunt Consulting, LLC has hosted 5 events and expanded the brand into a Peer Group Talk Circle for direct support professionals and the Sunday Supper Series for small-group mutual aid building.

And while we don't celebrate the wins often enough, we're beyond proud to be building something that brings people together for good.

But tonight is special. Da Community Cookout (C) at Point Park University will be the first of its kind, as the kickoff event to the Community Engagement and Leadership Department Residency.

If you're in the area or have friends who are, come out tonight and join us. The party has moved inside to get ahead of any weather, so don't miss this!

Absolutely fired up to be back in community with my dear friend Courtney Pierce MSW, RYT.

She is incredibly inspiring and has done the work of community building with intention for a long, long time.
