It's been a few days since the holiday weekend and whether you spent it at the beach, city sightseeing, in the mountains, wherever, you eventually came home - to unpacking, laundry and of course THE MAIL. Piles and piles of paper, waiting to swallow you up even when you've unsubscribed, opted for paperless, and "gone green". It can seem daunting and setting it aside to deal with later can seem like the most attractive option. BUT, if you break it up into quick 5 minute bursts, managing the mail can be quite simple. β β β β β β β β β
β
First, get yourself a large recyclable bag to sort all of your junk mail - flyers, investment summaries, catalogues, coupons, etc. If you still read the news in paper version, as I like to do, those too will go into the recycling, but sans plastic bag (those can be recycled at your grocery store!).
β
Second, get yourself another recyclable bag to sort everything that needs to be shredded - the second and third pages of any accounts that have a number, name, or other important information on them. Collect this type of mail until you are ready to either sit and use a personal shredder, take to a shredding center (localities around the country have FREE shredding days), or take to a UPS or FEDEX and they will charge you by weight.
β
Once you've sorted your two bags, you've now likely whittled down 70% of the mail that came in and are left with bills, invitations, magazines, and any other correspondence that deserves your time and attention.
