Providing governments with revenue to fight crime reduces incentives for emigration. Preliminary research indicates that approximately 3,000 Guatemalan victims of violence against women (VAW) considered migrating to the United States to escape the violence. Further research is needed to understand how measures to prevent and address VAW shape migration decisions.
