Thistles bloomed fast and early this year, but we're running hard to get them sprayed & clipped! If you know of a spot I need to prioritize, don't hesitate to call the shop & let me know. Same with all our noxious weeds. Sericea lespedeza, Johnsongrass, musk thistle, and ESPECIALLY the teasel, are our main targets.

05/18/2026

Due to the incoming storms, Washington County Environmental Sciences will be closing the Transfer Station and offices early today.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but we want to keep both the public and our employees safe.

Please stay weather-aware and be careful out there!

It’s grant time again!

This year, we’re applying for funding to replace our old paper shredder with a much heavier-duty model (Mr. Scott would be proud — IYKYK ❤️).

As part of the grant process, we’re asked to include a few letters of support for both our recycling program and the equipment purchase. We’d love to include a couple from citizens who truly support and use our recycling center.

It doesn’t have to be fancy or long — just a few sentences about how the recycling center impacts you or why you support what we do.

We only need a couple letters, so first sent, first used! Just message us here or email me at [email protected]

Thank you all for supporting Washington County Recycling!

We know it’s April Fools… but this is NOT a joke.

Please do NOT throw batteries in your trash or recycling carts.

Batteries can cause serious fires in garbage trucks and recycling facilities. When they get crushed or damaged, they can spark and ignite other materials.

🔋 Recycle batteries responsibly at approved drop-off locations instead.

After two years of building this program, we officially shipped out our first load of recycled glass!

This is a huge milestone, and it wouldn’t have happened without the people of this county stepping up and doing their part. Every bottle and jar you brought in helped make this possible.

We’re just getting started—so keep it coming. The more we recycle, the more we reduce waste and costs right here at home.

Once we get the official totals back, we’ll share how much glass was recycled and how much money we saved Washington County taxpayers.

Let’s keep the momentum going! 💪♻️

Thank you Ripple Glass!

Have you ever left the store & forgot to pay?
Yea, me neither, but it probably happens.
Maybe that's what happened here.
We've been trying to track this drive off down this week & not having much luck. Anyone recognize the truck/owner? If you know, give us a call at 785-325-2271 or call the dude & let him know we're looking to complete the stop and pay part of the transaction.
Mistakes happen!, We’re just looking to get things squared away. Thanks for the help!
