Yesterday your Washington VFD participated in Prescribed Burn Training. We spend most our time putting out fires but with this training we were starting them 😁. Prescription burning is a preplanned burning of undesirable acreage fuels. This could be due to undesirable weeds or excessive fire fuels, etc. The plan includes burning these fuels in a controlled environment. This P burn included 27 acres with hands on experience with drip torch techniques, back firing, weather conditions, Go-No Go parameters and planning. Special thanks to Assistant Chief Hamff of Rocky Creek VFD, Greg Pleasant with Texas Parks and Wildlife (Fire coordinator Div 4), Capt. Venables with Meyersville VFD for hosting and sharing their knowledge with us.

At 2:22pm today your Washington VFD responded mutual aid to assist Prairie Hill with a large grass fire involving 50+ hay bails. Also called for mutual aid were Meyersville VFD, Salem VFD and Gay Hill VFD. Other firefighters from around Washington backfilled Meyersville VFD’s station for 8 hrs, while units were on scene and covered the east side of the county in case of additional calls. Special thanks to EMS and CERT for being on scene and assisting with overheated firefighters. A huge thank you to Independence Food Center and Nathan’s BBQ for feeding all those that responded!
