Working in the intertidal zone of Sitka has been a unique opportunity for the True North Sustainable Development Solutions (TNSDS) cultural resources team. Supporting the Sitka Seawalk project meant working late into the night to align with the lowest tides and experiencing Southeast Alaska’s winter weather-including several inches of snowfall during our visit. These conditions are all part of working in a landscape where land and sea meet, a shoreline that has supported human activity and marine resource management for thousands of years. We are grateful to the Sitka community for the opportunity to work in such a beautiful and culturally rich place and look forward to returning later this year to continue our work along Sitka’s remarkable shoreline.
