This must be the year for float changes…we’ve always done them but there’s a distinct upsurge this year in how many new float installations have come our way. The most important thing when buying used floats is to make sure you get ALL of the hardware/rigging/fittings and to confirm that the floats are compatible with your plane.

Here’s a recent float change—I love the bright green wing tips against st the olive green body. And yes, I’m always intrigued by aircraft color/paint schemes. 😊

Just finished an annual on this Cessna 120, which thankfully had few discrepancies. We replaced the cracked exhaust muffler which will improve the air quality in the cockpit. 😆

Ok, you might need to drew up your classic movie quote knowledge for this one but it is pretty funny when you get it.

Another lovely Pacer annual complete! We installed new engine mounts and changed a trim cable so it should be running smooth again. We do love our Pacers! 😊

One of the best things about our business is the relationships that we get to build with customers. We met a young man last year and got to know him as he purchased a plane, using our shop as his base while working to build hours and get checked out in the plane. He eventually flew it home to Arizona.

However, his dad needed an engine installed in a different plane, so David flew down in February to “work remote”. It was a great week of work, getting to know his family, enjoying the sunshine and a little sightseeing thrown in for good measure.

And…Alaska worked its magic on the son who is flying up here for the summer…we’ll see if we can get him to stay year around! 😊

The longer we work in aviation, the more I realize how much creativity and problem solving is required. While there are definite procedures that have to be followed for certain items, there are other opportunities to be innovative.

For example, we had a customer on skis that flew in for an annual when there was minimal snow, but enough that he could land on the grass strip. The problem was how to get him across the asphalt to the hangar without ripping up his skis? The guys figured out a way to use the float trailer, the winch and a floor dolly to get him safely into the shop and then later to tow him to the float slip where he took off on the ice. Seems like there’s always something fun to watch when I’m working from home! lol! 😆
