She was born on a fishing boat in the waters off Nelson Island, Alaska, before she ever took a breath on solid ground. Her father d*ed a month before she arrived, and she grew up carrying an ache for a man she never got to know. But even as a small girl, something extraordinary was already stirring inside her. By the age of four, Rita Pitka Blumenstein was healing people. Four years old, and already answering a calling most of us spend a lifetime searching for.

The elder grandmothers of her Yup'ik tribe saw it in her early. They recognized a gift that could not be taught, only carried. And Rita carried it, faithfully, for the rest of her life. She worked in hospitals in Bethel and Nome, standing beside doctors as newborns took their first breaths. She studied under her elders, absorbing generations of sacred knowledge, until she became something no one in Alaska had ever officially been before: the first certified traditional doctor in the state's history. A bridge between two worlds, honored by both.

Rita's courage was not the kind that exploded in a single moment. It was quieter, and in many ways harder. It was the courage to keep healing others while burying five of her own six children. It was the courage to face her own cancer diagnosis in 1995 and turn inward, choosing to heal old wounds from the father she lost before birth. It was the courage to spend decades teaching in over 150 countries, carrying her people's songs, baskets, and wisdom to a world that was often too busy to listen.

At nine years old, her great grandmother placed 13 eagle feathers and 13 stones in her small hands, entrusting her with a sacred duty she would not fulfill for decades. When that day finally came, she passed them on with tears in her eyes.

Rita Pitka Blumenstein spent 88 years proving that true strength is measured not in battles fought, but in wounds healed.

This makes me physically sick. Having to hear about this and watch it happen personally infuriates me. Our providers need to do better!

FIRST 👉🏾 if you agree with this and want to learn more about unmedicated birth, be sure to hit that follow button!

Birth has always been an experience between the mother and the baby that was perfectly orchestrated by the universe.

When left alone (meaning no interventions, no medication, no one disturbing you), it unfolds so magically.

🤍 Literally everything has its own divine purpose and it truly is miraculous when you learn just how intentional our labor process is.

But when birth is disturbed or mom does not feel safe, then it can lead to unnecessary medical interventions, unnecessary c-sections and avoidable trauma.

Birth is not a medical event in itself. It's a natural event, where if we as women just allowed ourselves to tap into our divine POWER, we could really create a society of mothers that trust themselves and their instincts.

It all can be traced back to how you bring your baby into this world.

I am literally begging women to take their BIRTH-day seriously. It doesn't take a lot of work to get there, but it does take intention.

👉🏾 If you are serious about this and are looking for more guidance on how to prepare your mind and your body for labor, then I invite you to download my Labor Preparation Guide.

✨ Comment STRONG and I'll send you the link to get it OR click the link in my bio.

You deserve a birth experience that makes you feel powerful and leaves you feeling abundantly trusting in yourself. 🫶🏾
