Employee Spotlight: Connor Clark 💪🏻

When our equipment needs to be somewhere, Connor is the one making it happen. As Koelker’s truck driver, he’s putting in miles all across eastern Iowa hauling lowboys and side dumps, doing the kind of work that keeps every other part of the operation moving. With thousands of miles of experience under his belt, Connor brings a level of calm and confidence on the road that the whole crew has come to rely on. That’s exactly what you want from someone trusted with that responsibility.

The forecast said rain. The schedule didn’t care.

There’s something about a muddy job site and a cloudy sky that tests what a crew is made of. The ground gets heavy, the visibility drops, and the conditions make everything just a little bit harder. But the deadline doesn’t change, and neither does the standard we hold ourselves to. Rain is just another variable we work around.

Sunny days build sites. Rainy days build character.

Employee Spotlight: Matt Meyer 💪🏻

When there’s an excavator on site, there’s a good chance Matt is behind the controls. In his time with Koelker, Matt has built a reputation for running the stick with a level of precision and efficiency that the whole crew takes notice of. He’s not just good at operating, he brings years of experience with him that makes everyone around him better.

Employee Spotlight: Mason Thurm 💪🏻

Mason is one of the youngest guys on the crew, but don’t let that fool you. In the 3 years he’s been with Koelker, he’s proven that age has nothing to do with work ethic. He shows up every day ready to do whatever the job demands, and the crew knows that when Mason is on site, the work is getting done right. The kind of guy you want next to you on the toughest days.

Elkader, your new Casey's is closer than you think 👀

Tank set day is here and it’s one of the biggest milestones of the entire project. Two Xerxes underground fuel storage tanks were craned down, positioned, and backfilled with rock.

These tanks are what will ultimately hold the fuel that pumps at the gas station, and getting them in the ground is one of the last major underground steps before the site work wraps up and the finish work above ground can take over.

Every step of this process has to be executed in the right order with the right people, and today the crew delivered. Big thanks to Midwest Liquid Systems A-1 Crane Rental & Machinery Moving, Inc.

Things are moving fast in Elkader 💪🏻

We're on site at the intersection of High Street NE and Johnson Street NE for a brand new Casey's. Mass grading is done, utilities are in the ground, and the crew is currently setting up a slide-rail shoring system in preparation for underground fuel tank installation later this week.

The building is nearly completed and the best part is still ahead. Stay tuned.

When you need a track loader down in the trench, you call on the big brother to get it there.

Our CAT 352 excavator put in the work here, lifting our CAT 255 track loader in and out of the trench so the crew could keep things moving down below.

Employee Spotlight: Brad Miller 💪🏻

Brad has been with Koelker Excavating since 2022 and in that time, he’s become one of those guys you just know you can count on. Whether he’s behind the controls of a machine or getting his hands dirty on the ground, he brings the same energy no matter what. The hardest part about working with Brad might be trying to keep a straight face.
