Physical Therapist Doll Therapy Testimonial: I recently worked with a patient who was resistant to walking and hesitant to engage in therapy. After introducing doll therapy, we placed her doll in a basket on her walker and I said, “Let’s take the baby for a walk.”

Doll therapy can have a profound impact on patients with advanced dementia. One nurse shared a powerful experience:

A patient, who was continuously yelling out and convinced she was in the hospital to give birth, was provided with a baby doll. The immediate response was remarkable; the patient calmed down instantly. It was a transformative moment that showcased the effectiveness of this therapeutic approach.

Such interventions highlight the importance of understanding and addressing the emotional needs of patients in care settings.

Doll Therapy Positive Impact Story: Improving care, safety, and outcomes.

"The patient I cared for resides at a long-term care facility in a memory care unit. While at our hospital, the patient had to have a patient safety attendant because she was confused, irritable, aggressive, and a safety concern. I noticed while the patient was watching television, a commercial came on showing a baby. The patient began talking to the baby on the TV, stating how adorable the baby was. The patient was then given a baby doll, and a noticeable difference in the patient’s mood and behaviors. The patient was pleasant, smiling, and no longer had aggressive behaviors. The patient safety attendant was discontinued. On discharge, she left waving and smiling at the staff, with the baby doll in her lap." Grateful having doll therapy available at our hospital. , , , ,
