Dining Room Corner
Center:
Mahogany n gold Victrola crank record player (1926 RCA). Bought for $50 and carried down three stories of a Brooklyn brownstone. When I opened the drawer, tucked underneath was a concert poster from Fort Greene Park, dated 1928 in perfect condition.
On top:
A group of animal art prints by Ryan Berkeley, collected over time. Originals picked up through Renegade Craft Fair starting around 2011.
Next to them:
A 3D MetroCard sculpture I got around 2005, back when my friend Abby was dating a hippie artist who collected MetroCards from the subway and sold these on the street.
Beside that:
Small twisty toy sculptures from (2026) and ’s portrait books, a Christmas gift picked up from an exhibition in Chicago in 2020.
Record player I actually use:
A Numark portable turntable and a rotating slice of my vinyl collection only part of it, but obviously heavy on but just got the new record from my kids haha
On the wall:
Two charcoal drawings on matzah paper with white-wash backgrounds by , made while he was living in New York City around 2007.
On the shelves:
Ceramic figures by (2003), an origami silver necklace by (2007), a glass vase by (2006), and college-era artwork by Dan McPherson friend, roommate, and constant inspiration collected in 2005 when we were living like creative animals in the Opera House Lofts in Bushwick.
Also here:
A watercolor by Sea Bright Studio, received as a gift in 2011, paired with a meaningful art pieces I own, made by my friend’s sister.
Personal pieces:
A sculpture made of rocks by my youngest child next to my father’s funeral card (RIP), with a small fairy made by my neighbor Connie just above it.
