This project was all about creating gardens that feel established, layered, and personal.
The front design focuses on year-round structure and seasonal interest, while the backyard concept becomes more of a private sanctuary with a spiral garden, fruiting plants, pollinator-friendly material, and room to grow into itself over time.
I really enjoyed working through the balance of form, function, privacy, and plant character on this one.

This project has been a really satisfying one to develop.
The goal was to take a fairly complex property and make the different spaces feel intentional and connected — front entry, terraces, stairs, planting, seating, water, and the lakeside garden all working together instead of feeling like separate pieces.
The design direction is Modern Contemporary with Organic Lines, so I’ve been balancing clean structure with softer planting forms and movement through the landscape.
These drawings show the project from a few different angles so the client and contractor can understand not just where things go, but how the space is meant to feel when it’s built.
I love this part of the process — turning a plan into something people can actually visualize.

This concept came together surprisingly smoothly. A 30/60 triangle and a straightedge were really all I needed to build the perspective.
My favorite part is the “x-ray vision” effect through the foreground trees — you can still understand the space behind them without losing the feeling of being surrounded by the landscape.

This was such a satisfying drawing to build.

The response to Calligraphy Firsts has been wonderful. Reservations are coming in, and only nine seats are available for October 20.

TWO WAYS TO PARTICIPATE:

CALLIGRAPHY FIRSTS — $65
October 20, 7:00–8:15 p.m.

Attend one beginner session and learn the foundations of pointed-pen calligraphy. You’ll leave with a personal starter collection valued at approximately $40.

CALLIGRAPHY FIRSTS TO CHRISTMAS CARDS — $175

October 20 counts as Part One of this four-part series. The remaining sessions expand into letter connections, flourishes, composition, painting, detailing, card construction and envelope addressing.

You’ll leave with approximately $80 in art supplies and the skills to create personalized cards, gift tags and meaningful gifts for every season—a beautiful way to celebrate loved ones while staying within a budget.

Beginner participants may choose to add the remaining three sessions for $120 on October 20. Those sessions will begin about two weeks later than originally planned so I can order the additional paints, cards and matching envelopes.

The complete series requires at least four participants. If that minimum is not reached, only the remaining Christmas-card sessions will be canceled. Future beginner workshops will be offered, but the complete series contains far too much material to fit into one class.

Registration closes October 6—or earlier if all seats are reserved.

Completed a beautiful, hand-drawn cottage garden design for a new construction home over in Oconomowoc. Met with the finish grader and the landscape contractor to coordinate sidewalk, patio, and garden bed shapes for gravel base work and quality topsoil where applicable. It's just so fulfilling to be confirmed that what you do is absolutely professional and applicable in real world applications.

Page composition and lettering also done by hand.
Tools:
Drafted in graphite using circle templates, engineering scale, flexible ruler, french curves, t-square, drafting table, light table, and 25 years of Horticulture & Industry Experience. Finished with micron pen, alcohol marker shading, and colored pencil details on 24x36" Vellum.

I not only design landscapes, paths, and patios but also landscape lighting, stormwater management, water features and water walls, interiorscapes, outdoor kitchens, and seasonal decor (inside and out).

Crystal Clear Estimates LLC is still easy to reach during the East Main Street closure.

If you’re coming from the east side of Watertown, I recommend avoiding East Main Street and coming in this way:
S. Concord Avenue → WESTERN AVE → S. FOURTH ST → Downtown

Follow Fourth Street north into downtown to Crystal Clear Estimates LLC | DBA Garden Lady’s Obsession at 111 N. Fourth Street.

There is 10-hour public parking behind the shop, which is a great option while the road work is going on.

During my open hours, if you come in through the back entrance, just ring the bell and I’ll let you in.

The construction may change how you get downtown for a few days, but the shoppe is open and accessible.
