Did you know about this? Your ceiling fan can help warm you up in the winter! Logically it makes sense since heat rises, but I don't think many people know about this trick.

With the cold weather, we remind residents to heat your home safely.

Space heaters should always be plugged into a grounded outlet. Never plug them into power strips or extension cords. The internal components are not designed to handle the constant electrical draw of a heater. Make sure your heater has a tip over safety switch that will shut the unit off if it accidentally gets knocked over.

Wood burning fireplaces and chimneys should be professionally inspected and cleaned yearly.

Keep any combustible material such as clothing and bedding at least 3 feet away from any heat source.

Most importantly test your smoke detectors for proper operation and have an escape plan in case of a fire.
