⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR TONIGHT ⚠️

McKenzie County is currently under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. Conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.

Now is the time to prepare:

✅ Monitor weather conditions throughout the evening.
✅ Have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio, weather apps, local media, and Wireless Emergency Alerts.
✅ Secure outdoor furniture, trampolines, and loose items that could become airborne in strong winds.
✅ Move vehicles and equipment under cover if possible to protect them from hail damage.
✅ Charge cell phones and other essential devices in case of power outages.
✅ Identify a safe shelter location inside your home or workplace.

If a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued:

🌩️ Move indoors immediately.
🏠 Stay away from windows and exterior doors.
⚡ Avoid using corded electronics and plumbing fixtures during periods of frequent lightning.
🚗 Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
🌪️ If a tornado warning is issued, move to the lowest level of a sturdy building and shelter in an interior room away from windows.

The McKenzie County Emergency Management Office will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

Stay weather aware and be prepared to take action when/if more warnings are issued.

You might see large military aircraft flying at low elevations during daytime hours from 26 May - 5 June.

In collaboration with the Williams County Vector Control District (WCVCD), the United States Air Force Reserve (USAFR) 910th Airlift Wing, stationed in Youngstown, Ohio, will be conducting wide-area aerial larvicide treatments. Treatments will be focused over riparian areas of the Missouri River located south and southeast of Williston.

The USAFR will be using VectoBac 12AS, with active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis. Vectobac 12 AS is approved for use in residential areas by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Larvicide treatments target mosquito larvae and prevent them becoming biting adults.
