One Sunday, I received a call from Clifford 📞. He had come across one of my letters ✉️ offering to purchase his home 🏡. He was at the property and mentioned that he was interested in selling, so I headed over immediately to take a look 👀. The house was filled with items that had belonged to his parents 🕰️, and as we walked through it, Clifford shared incredible stories about his childhood in Waukegan. He recalled seeing homes moved from downtown into his neighborhood, and his neighbors, who owned a house-moving business, used a team of horses 🐴 to relocate them.

Clifford also spoke about his parents' journey from Denmark 🇩🇰. His father had moved to Waukegan first to find work 👷‍♂️, and once he was settled, he sent for Clifford’s mother. She traveled alone by boat 🚢, and the seas were so rough that daily Mass ⛪ was held, just in case they didn’t make it.
