👋 Meet the Owner – Don Baker 👷‍♂️

When you hire Baker Excavating, you’re getting more than just a company—you’re getting Don himself, on every job, doing the work right from start to finish.

Don’s story starts just north of Lyons, Ohio, where he grew up and attended Sand Creek Schools. With four siblings and a father who was a union operator, you could say heavy equipment runs in his blood. When Don says he’s been around machinery his whole life—he truly means it.

He began his career in 1989 with SE Johnson/Shelley, and went on to spend decades working for well-known companies like Anderzack Pitzen, Underground Utilities, Miller Bros, Gleason Construction, and Michaels Pipeline. With over 30 years in the Operating Engineers Union, Don has built a reputation for precision, hard work, and doing things the right way.

But what matters most to him is family.

This year marks 20 years together, and we’ve built a life with 5 kids—three married with families of their own, and two still at home. That same dedication he has to our family is what he brings to every customer and every job.

No shortcuts. No rushing. Just honest work done right.
