🚨 ATTENTION ALL CPG LEADERS 🚨

I always love meeting new people, so I figured I’d introduce myself to all of the new Leaders joining this community every day! I’m Dorothy Enriquez, the CEO and Principal Founder of The Ellevate Collective LLC, and your local leadership expert.

When I started Ellevate years ago, I told myself that I was going to ensure that leaders, especially women leaders across the land feel supported to become the leaders they were always meant to be and become a source of power and innovation. Lucky for me, I get to do this every single DAY! Helping you lead from every seat you sit in is my passion.

Here’s me getting ready for another diversity, equity, inclusion, and engagement session. I love what I do! And I love helping my clients go on a transformative journey. Thank you GOD! I’m so happy I can share my journey with y’all.

At 10 years old, I tried to school my parents on leadership...

Flashback to when I was 10, rocking my platted hair and my most colorful Garifuna dress, armed with nothing but a poster board and a vision to teach my parents better leadership skills.

❗️ Spoiler alert: it didn’t exactly go as planned. It ended with them telling me to go to my room, and they changed nothing.

But you know what? That experience taught me resilience, the importance of adaptability, and the value of learning from failure.

Fast forward to today, and here I am, still passionate about leadership but armed with a lot more experience and wisdom. Life’s funny like that, isn’t it?

The craziest thing happened, you'll never believe it…you’re going to want to share this with your biz bestie when you’re done! 🤗

If you know me, you know how much I LOVE to share my clients successes, so let's dive into one from a couple months ago...

This success story comes from a government-funded nonprofit, a small yet dynamic team of about 15 to 20 people experiencing significant turnover and transitions. We started by focusing on confidence-building, understanding that confident leaders are more likely to take calculated risks (don't be afraid to fail!), influence positively, and make a meaningful impact. Next, we dove into emergenetics, which are your brain's preferences (a.k.a tendencies, habits, pathways).

By understanding each team member's thinking and behavioral patterns, they were able to enhance creativity, productivity, and effective collaboration. In virtual environments, team members showcased their emergenetics profiles in their email signatures, facilitating better communication and understanding.

In-person, they displayed their profiles in their workspace, creating a culture of flexibility and mutual understanding. One of the significant challenges was building trust amid high turnover and transition periods. Ensuring alignment rather than agreement was key, as the team needed to row in the same direction without necessarily agreeing on every detail. This led to coaching sessions for the VP, focusing on leadership moments, DEI initiatives, and strategies for sustaining team cohesion amidst flux. The result was a more confident, aligned, and resilient team ready to navigate challenges and achieve their goals.

How did you deal with disappointment this week, leaders?

There's so many aspects to leading a team that require us to respond with grace as people leaders -- disappointment is a common feeling that is often unexpected at work. Whether you're disappointed about a change at work, a client not paying an invoice (and that directly impacting your team), OR your team making a HUGE mistake that you have to navigate so the customer doesn't feel it. Disappointment is inevitable when running a business and often comes dressed in frustration and impatience.

Here's 3 tips for how I navigate disappointment as a leader.

👉🏾 Don't dismiss your feelings. Recognize and accept your disappointment. Ask, "What am I disappointed about?" This helps you move towards empowerment.

👉🏾 Avoid excuses. Stay open and honest to shift towards solutions. Brainstorm with others to move forward productively.

👉🏾 Is the disappointment justified? What expectations were unmet? Understanding the root cause helps you learn and improve.

I considered calling in sick. 😅 Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to speak at CCAW (Conference on Crimes Against Women). It was a truly unique and special experience, but honestly, one of the toughest keynotes I've ever faced. Doubt crept in big time—I was ready to whip out all my best sick day excuses.

Facing an audience focused on women and crime was daunting. As a survivor of domestic violence, I have personal insights, but I questioned myself: Would they connect with my message? Did I know enough?

To combat my nerves, I sought help and together, we crafted a 🔥 keynote. The day arrived—I relied on faith, drew from personal experiences, and leaned into my work with SV and DV agencies. Turns out, I had a lot to share.

The presentation? It was a hit. People approached me afterwards, moved and touched. One woman even teared up, sharing how much it meant to her.

This experience taught me to trust in God and push past my doubts. What's your biggest challenge you've overcome? Let's chat below!
